BRIDGING
PRESCRIPTIONS
What is a bridging prescription?
A bridging prescription refers to a temporary prescription
of hormone replacement therapy (HRT), which is usually
oestrogen or testosterone. It is given by a GP to a patient
who is awaiting specialist treatment, usually at a gender
identity clinic.

Remember, it is important to consider your fertility options prior to
starting hormone replacement therapy. More info here.
Researching GP's with specialist interest in trans healthcare
can be very useful. Such GP's may be willing to support your
GP in the process of bridging prescriptions.
If you are considering accessing hormone replacement therapy, we
strongly encourage you to speak to your GP or health professional.
We do not recommend self-medicating.
