You might decide to apply for a Gender
Recognition Certificate (GRC) so you can:
Change your birth certificate and sex marker
with HMRC.
Want your marriage or civil partnership
certificate to reflect your true identity.
Have the correct sex recorded on your death
certificate, preventing you from being
misgendered after death.
Many private pension providers and some
insurance providers require you to have obtained
a GRC before they will change the sex on your
records.
You need to be over the age of 18 to seek legal
gender recognition in the UK.
Currently, non-binary people in the UK are unable
to obtain legal recognition of the fact that they
are non-binary.
