CHANGING MY
PRONOUNS
Pronouns are typically used to replace the name or reference a
person in the third person. They frequently carry an implied
gender, for example, "he" for a man/boy and "she" for a woman/girl.
Considering what pronouns you use might be a process. For some,
they may decide to use the pronouns that identify most with their
gender (like she/her or he/him). Others may decide that genderneutral
pronouns (like ze/zir, they/them, xe/xem) may suit them
better. You may feel that your gender identity fits somewhere
between (like she/they or he/they).
Just like your name, trialling pronouns with trusted people may
help you identify what suits you best.
It is respectful for us to use gender neutral pronouns like
they/them when we don't know what pronouns someone uses.
For example: 'I think they will be arriving soon'
Remember, you can change your pronouns as often as
you need, to find what you are most comfortable with.
